Home Office: One Room Challenge Week 3 – Building cabinets
Wow week 3 of the One Room Challenge and I am in my feels. With every project I tackle I go into it with a certain level of fear. Sometimes that fear instigates hesitation and in the past it kept me from even contemplating I do it myself. For example, installing laminate floors (waited 2 yrs on that), tiling (put that off for months) and most recently wall to wall built ins. Now here I am starting this week with built ins on the agenda. I have scoured the web (youtube, Instagram, Pinterest, Houzze) for inspiration, plans and tutorials. Thankfully my friend Oanh (whom you need to follow) shared with me the online Ana White DIY plans she was using for base cabinets that she is building too. That gave me a good starting point.
What I used:
- 2- sheets of 3/4in. 4ft x8ft plywood (I used birch, but would recommend a more affordable one)
- Kreg pocket hole jig
- 1 1/4 pocket hole screws
- Kreg Rip cut (it meant I didn’t have to use my table saw)
- Circular saw
- Jig Saw
- Gorilla Glue
- Safety glasses
- Measuring Tape
I am very proud of myself for not letting fear stop me. For believing and proving that I am built for this. Not only me, but you too. If I dream it I will build it. Week 4 will be about making these look built in. Stay tuned.
